In the complex world of the internet there are several terms and concepts which must be learned in order to keep maximum security and protection while surfing the web. As you know many people are afraid of getting their computers hacked or have their personal and financial information compromised due to security holes in the system being used. Security holes can be found not only in the operating system but they could also be open due to bad firewall configurations (or no firewall at all), malicious scripts which have been downloaded or installed along with bundled software or even internet browser problems.

People who frequent dangerous sites for one reason or the other must be aware of what a proxy can do for them; but the fact is that not only people who visit dangerous sites need the protection offered by a proxy but people who just want to surf the web anonymously without being worried of security problems. A proxy of course can only protect users from having their IPs (internet protocol address) propagated and scripts run without permission; if a user decides to download programs and run them in their computers then they’ll definitively need the protection of a good internet and virus security suite.

Proxies are free services which are available to anyone on the web, they can bypass firewall and other settings which prevent users from accessing social sites, for instance, several schools and workplaces block “Myspace” by not allowing people using their network to enter those sites; however people who access a proxy site can browse these sites without a problem. The records kept in the computer are those of the proxy site and not of the site visited through this portal.

Those who wish to use these excellent tools from home or work can simply change their internet explorer connection tab configuration through the LAN settings tab, once this button has been pressed a new windows open and an option which allows us to specify the IP address for the Proxy site appears, this is similar in other browsers such as Firefox, Opera, etc.

Webmasters who want to build their own proxies can do so by installing simple scripts such as “CGI-Proxy” or “PHProxy”, they both can be installed in web servers and configured easily, one thing to keep in mind is that if you are a webmaster or just someone who has a virtual hosting plan, make sure to configure the script to block image hot-linking through the site you are about to build, if you don’t change this setting your bandwidth usage can go through the roof. Besides using these scripts there are several templates which can help you customize the look of the portal. You can also use your own Photoshop designs if you are an advance web developer.

As you see this type of sites provides several advantages such as improved security, anonymity and easy access to restricted sites within a local network.

When starting off with any sort of online business, the most important decision which you will make would be about the appearance or the design of your business website.

This is the very old debate that is it wise to use custom webs design or pre-designed templates while designing the website. In my opinion, the custom web design is better in the sense that you have to make the choices of your own considering the objective, needs, goals and requirements of your online business. Custom web design is something which can portray company’s online presence in an effective manner.

When starting off with any sort of online business, the most important decision which you will make would be about the appearance or the design of your business website. Therefore it is very much concerned thing that you have to make the best possible choice from the available options. It is not a question and one can not go against this statement that the custom design is more costly than the pre-designed templates but on the other part, there are lots of advantages associated with custom web design as well. Following are some reasons to consider custom web design over pre-designed templates.

You will not be asked about the un-usual publicity and marketing of your business through this. You can show greater imaginative professional website with the help of custom web design. It is very difficult for the business to select from the available pre-designed templates because the businesses are not likely to be set according to them. Pre-designed templates are built in and are mostly utilized without the functional approach of business. Another reason to use the custom design for the website is that it can’t be copied by any other website and business because it is your own unique idea and creation. Through the custom design, you can easily enhance the marketing efficiency of your business as well. Through this, your business and your products or services can be recognized among your targeted audience with ease.

Custom website design is very advantageous in terms of SEO as more and more search engines are recommending those business websites which are customized. While on the other hand, these days pre-designed templates are considered as a negative aspect for online businesses when it comes to Search engine optimization.

The custom design is also helpful because the ideas here are latest and updated and are not rigid and limited to the old concepts when the pre-designed templates were designed.

So, I am sure that by now you must have understood that what will be your choice when it will come to selecting from custom web design or pre-designed templates. Do stay around and subscribe to my blog as there will be a couple more post explaining a little bit about the importance of good design for your business.

Many people complaints saying that Adversal is not what they used to be and the earnings from them are scarce now with the recent changes. I got an email in 2 parts from Adversal and they explains about the changes. Hopefully these will be useful to others.

If you are new to Adversal and haven’t yet signed up, I appreciate if you could use my affiliate link and I will try to help you in any way I can.

REAL-TIME RATES
As you may or may not know, over the summer Adversal switched to a
real-time pricing model from one that was static. The overall impact of
this has been quite successful. It has proven to not only allow for a
better fill rate, but has also been capable of capturing the best rates
available at a given time for your inventory. We have seen the most
fluctuation in US rates, which by far have been the highest of all regions.

The new model has come with some misconceptions though. One I would like
to address is regarding the raw and unique CPMs. The thought is that
since we now display uCPM (unique CPM) in your account, that we only pay
for unique traffic. This is however, not true. Impressions are still
calculated on a raw basis (page views). The only difference is that the
system is now tracking your uniques as well, making it possible to see
your CPM broken down into a unique rate.
The new model has come with some misconceptions though.

So whats the purpose? A unique CPM that is close to your raw CPM
indicated a low page views to visitor ratio. The higher it is, the
greater your visitor loyalty/retention is.

FILL RATES
If you are seeing a lower then expected fill rate, then there are a
couple of things you can do. First off, if the low fill is for a
non-English speaking country, then its likely because we don’t have much
advertiser demand for that traffic. However, if that’s not the case,
then check your limit setting. The limit being the number of ads that
will be shown to a given user per 30 mins. If you set this to a value
that is lower then your site’s average page views per user, then you may
be missing out on extra earning opportunities.

Another scenario is that you’re only using the InPage Popups. We do
typically have greater inventory when it comes to pop-unders, so if you
are currently using the InPages only, consider switching to the
InPage+Popunder code.

NEW PAYMENT SCHEDULE
Starting next month, we will be moving from a Net 15 to a Net 35
payments schedule. This means that instead of issuing payments 15 days
after the end of the month, we will now be issuing payment 35 days after
the end of the month. The change is to allow us extra time to collect
outstanding balances.

The last Net 15 payment will be October 15th for balance accrued during
September. After that, the Net 35 schedule will kick in and the next
payment period will be December 5th for balances accrued during October.
The minimum payment will still be $20. A Q&A regarding the Net 35 terms
has been added to the FAQ in your account that details out all of the
payment periods throughout the year.

DEFAULTS
A common question that we receive is regarding defaults. Why do we not
offer defaults for pop-unders? The answer is because our pop-unders are
essentially action based (clicking a link to trigger an ad) whereas many
other ad networks will launch a pop-under once your website loads.
The two methods are not compatible, thus a default chain would not work.

USING POP-UP/UNDERS FROM OTHER NETWORKS
In most cases, yes, you can host pop-up/under code from another network
along side our publisher code. Our terms say specifically that you
cannot place the Adversal publisher code on a page which launches a
pop-up/under ad simultaneously to ours. However, since our pop-unders
are action based and many other networks launch pops at the time when your site first loads, the two ads would never load simultaneously. This means that you can in fact use pop-up/under code from another network as long as its not action based.

These are the thing you should take into account if you want to get accepted by Adversal.

I have received too many PMs from Digitalpoint forums and emails asking for a tips to get accepted by Adversal. Honestly, I am no expert but from my research and interviews (I am referring to the answers I got from Adversal’s staff), I pretty much sure if you follow the following advise, you will likely have a bigger chance of getting accepted by them.

Using your NON-PROXY sites, apply to Adversal.

Make sure prior to sign ups, you blocked China [CN], Iran [IR] and Russia [RU]. Use geotargeting on your site, it helps.

AFTER signing up, send an email to psupport -a-t- adversal -d-o-t- com and tell them a few additional details about your site such as stats screenshot etc. You may add that you have a few high traffic sites (if you really have them) and give the url out. If you are going to use it on proxies, tell them that you are also interested running their ad network on web proxy sites. You can mention this site too if needed.

They might asked you this when they reply:

As a requirement, your site must consist of 50% North American traffic and in reviewing your application, it has been determined that more
information is necessary.

- Can you provide country stats?
- What countries are you currently blocking?
- Do you own other proxy or proxy related sites that you are planning to use Adversal on? If so, does your block list apply to these sites as well?

Things that you need to understand:
This is from Adversal staff: If the applicant’s site complies with our terms, it could simply come down to a timing issue. Applications can be turned down if we don’t have enough advertisers to fill a site’s inventory, or if we have too many sites of similar focus already active in our network. In the case of proxies, the ladder usually tends to apply more.

At first I thought my site was hacked since it does not detected any of the files structure I used to access. So, I alerted my admin and my DC. To my surprised, my DC replied saying the IP that is associated with ProxyWhereabouts.com was assigned to another server! WTF!

I have been using that IP for more than a year and they give me BS reason that the IP hasn’t been used more than 15 days so it will automatically be assigned to another client. Of course they will not see any activity because the IP was used as a nameserver!

I asked for the IP to be reassigned to my server again but it has already been assigned to another client. So, I guess I have to use another IP. For now it looks like the new IP has propagate itself within US but yet to reach my country. I hope everything will be fine as it should be.

Lesson learnt here is, ALWAYS bind all IPs to your server to prevent them being assigned to someone else.

People are really interesting creatures, they always want something they can’t have and that goes the same for real world just as for life on the web. May I say thank God for that because would it be exciting at all if we wouldn’t try to reach something that’s not allowed? What’s life without adrenaline anyway?

Now, on solid ground we all desire one thing – our neighbor’s wife but on the internet we all share one common experience, we have been banned from this cool website and we want the access back. But can we get it? Of course we can and that’s what today’s online business is all about – proxies.

Proxies or content filters will always be searched for as there will always be people who get banned from websites so why not try to make a buck out of it? Many schools block popular social networking website such as MySpace and Facebook and other popular destinations for kids and many companies and government institutes block certain websites so their employees can’t scrimshank at work and some people just want to keep their browsing habits anonymous.

Now installing a proxy is not that big of a deal but getting traffic to it can be a pain in the neck, especially today when a visitor has tens of thousands proxy websites to choose from. What make you believe he is going to surf your Proxy?

Most common method of promoting a Proxy is getting it listed on several proxy listing site. They do ask for a reciprocal link which most of us are not fans of but it’s worth in this case because some of them are such as Proxy.org is the biggest proxy directory online so you can get sizeable amount of traffic from them. Don’t ignore smaller directories because they’re also a good source of traffic.

Template. Apart from listing your proxy to several proxy listing online, you would want to have a site which can be recognizable to your user. Think of it like drawing a map inside your users mind. With a combination of a good domain name, good looking template does converts traffic. If you Google “free custom proxy template”, you will see there are many sites that offered free proxy template.

Exchanging links can be a great way to attract visitors but don’t do it with someone running a Proxy like yourself because they’re direct competition so it would make no sense in exchanging links with another Proxy website. Instead, try to make a deal with Arcade website owners since those are usually the type of websites that get blocked. However, by advertising your Proxy on a website like that means direct exposure and can get you banned as well so you’ll have to decide whether it is worth the hassle or not.

Also don’t forget to post in forums because forums can be your second biggest traffic income if you do it right. Bulletin boards with off topic (MySpace, Orkut, Facebook) or video game genres (Filefront, Talk-Gaming) are most likely to attract a lot of visitors due to the variety of targeted audience (teenagers) but since nowadays it doesn’t matter where you come from it would be good for your business if you could post on webmaster related forums (DigitalPoint, Sitepoint, WebProxyTalk)

MySpace and Facebook. Of course, why you didn’t think of that? It’s so obvious it’s likely to get forgotten but it is also a crucial step in Proxy website promotion. What’s a better way to promote a Proxy than to promote it on a website getting blocked most of the time? You can buy MySpace and Facebook accounts with thousands of friends for 10$ or 20$ but you can always build your society yourself if you like to get things done from scratch. Posting occasional bulletins and commenting your friends’s profiles can make wonders.

Last but not least, paid advertising. This can be harder for Proxy owners with no steady income so you’re more than welcomed not to pay a dime on advertising but if you’re thinking about getting serious with your Proxy, PPC programs are money well spent. If you’re new to AdWords, AdBrite, BidVertiser and other Pay Per Click program, do it on a small scale first and if it works, expand your arbitrage.

Whatever you might do, remember you’re here to offer free proxy services to people and the same way you got on the market you can be removed from it so watch you don’t fall off the clip because Proxy business can sometimes be dangerous. Work hard, be patient and results will be overwhelming.

As you know, our proxy list section has stopped working. Many people emailed me about this and I am very thankful for that. However, it was not because I’m using a nullified script or something like that. I bought the script on DigitalPoint.com since the seller said the script was not encoded. Turn out the seller went missing, changed his email address and let his domain expired. To my surprised, the script on this site suddenly stopped working and after doing some digging, I found out that almost all his previous buyer who are using this script also having the same problem.

Since at that time I do not have enough time to play with the script, I just let it stopped functioning. LOL..I know, I shouldn’t have done that. About a few minutes ago, I had a chance to look into the source code and play with it. Then, finally I found the code which communicate with the seller’s website and remove it from the script, and now you see our Proxy Listing section is back online again!.

Here are the codes which you need to remove from the script to make it working again.

@require(‘includes/class_root.php’);

I noticed that there is trend right now in proxy webmasters to use CPA based advertising company for their proxies. One of the advertising company being used is Zango. However, what I don’t like is when I go to a site, a Zango gateway is being showed each and every page load I made. I went to search about Zango and what I learned is that by default the gateway is displayed to every visitor, on every page they view.

Of course this may earned you an extra revenue but why not think in user viewpoint. Seeing the gateway being shown frequently just annoy me personally, left alone other people who visits the site.

So, to my conscience, I would like to show you how to make the popups only showed once or at your desired time using a few lines of code. This code was taken from monetizationhub.

<?php
session_start();
//Increment the ‘views’ session variable.
if (isset($_SESSION[‘views’])){
$_SESSION[‘views’] = $_SESSION[‘views’]+ 1;
} else {
$_SESSION[‘views’] = 1;
}
//Display Zango on only the first page view.
if ($_SESSION[‘views’] == 1){
echo ‘ZANGO CODE HERE’;
}

?>

Code Explained:

In case you didn’t know, a session is an encrypted cookie. What the first half of the code does is increment a session variable to count each visitor’s page views. The second half of the code starting with if ($_SESSION['views'] == 1){ checks if the visitor has viewed 1 page and if so, outputs the Zango gateway code.

If you want to modify the above code you would simply change the == 1 to == 3 for the third page view or > 3 for the 4th, 5th, 6th etc page views.

While showing frequent might increase the chance of user completing the surveys, it also put a risk to lose your visitors. So, I would recommend only showing 1-2 times per session. This will help you reduce the bounce rate (when visitors left your page early or immaturely) and supposedly increase the amount of return visitors. According to this script author, having the gateway to display after certain amount of pageviews can increase the conversion rate on some sites.

For those who had problem in ads showing public service ads or PSA, I would recommend you to target your content. This can be done by wrapping your content with the code below

<!- google_ad_section_start ->
YOUR CONTENT HERE
<!- google_ad_section_end ->

What it will do is making that content known to the Adsense’s robots and all the ads shown on your page will use certain keyword from the wrapped content.

Other way to avoid showing PSA on your Adsense is to use the alternate ad url that can be found when you are setting up a new ad unit. use other ad company such as Adbrite, Mediashakers, Canep Media etc as your alternate ads. So, whenever Adsense don’t have an ad to fill your inventory, it will show the alternate ads instead.

Too many people has asked me on several forums about this. Actually, setting up an ads in your proxified pages is very easy. All you need is to search for a few keywords/codes and put your ads in between them.

So, here we goes. I will write the method of how you can place your own ads in your proxy proxified page.

#PHProxy
Open up “index.php” and do a search for “url_form”. Then, you will find something like this,

$_url_form      = ‘<div style=”width:100%;margin:0;text-align:center;border-bottom:1px solid #000;color:#fff;background:#654d8d;font-size:12px;font-weight:bold;font-family:Bitstream Vera Sans,arial,sans-serif;padding:4px;”>’
. ‘<form method=”post” action=”‘ . $_script_url . ‘”>’
. ‘ <label for=”____’ . $_config['url_var_name'] . ‘”><a href=”‘ . $_url . ‘”>Address</a>:</label> <input id=”____’ . $_config['url_var_name'] . ‘” type=”text” size=”80″ name=”‘ . $_config['url_var_name'] . ‘” value=”‘ . $_url . ‘” />’
. ‘ <input type=”submit” name=”go” value=”Go” />’
. ‘ [go: <a href="' . $_script_url . '?' . $_config['url_var_name'] . ‘=’ . encode_url($_url_parts['prev_dir']) .’ “>up one dir</a>, <a href=”‘ . $_script_base . ‘”>main page</a>]’
. ‘<br /><hr />’;

Put your ads in between <hr /> and ‘. So, your ads should be like this.

$_url_form      = ‘<div style=”width:100%;margin:0;text-align:center;border-bottom:1px solid #000;color:#fff;background:#654d8d;font-size:12px;font-weight:bold;font-family:Bitstream Vera Sans,arial,sans-serif;padding:4px;”>’
. ‘<form method=”post” action=”‘ . $_script_url . ‘”>’
. ‘ <label for=”____’ . $_config['url_var_name'] . ‘”><a href=”‘ . $_url . ‘”>Address</a>:</label> <input id=”____’ . $_config['url_var_name'] . ‘” type=”text” size=”80″ name=”‘ . $_config['url_var_name'] . ‘” value=”‘ . $_url . ‘” />’
. ‘ <input type=”submit” name=”go” value=”Go” />’
. ‘ [go: <a href="' . $_script_url . '?' . $_config['url_var_name'] . ‘=’ . encode_url($_url_parts['prev_dir']) .’ “>up one dir</a>, <a href=”‘ . $_script_base . ‘”>main page</a>]’
. ‘<br /><hr />YOUR AD HERE‘;

To add your ad code in the footer, find this line of codes;

$pattern = “#</body>#i”;
preg_match($pattern,$_response_body, $matches);
$_response_body = preg_replace($pattern, ‘
</body>’, $_response_body); //the replace function

Then replace it with these;

$pattern = “#</body>#i”;
preg_match($pattern,$_response_body, $matches);
$_response_body = preg_replace($pattern, ‘
<!– START AD CODE –>
YOU AD CODE HERE
<!– END AD CODE –>
</body>’, $_response_body); //the replace function

#Glype

When you download the installation files, you will find “setup.php” in one of its folder. Upload that file and secure it with a password. In that file, you will see several options that you can set. Click on “Installation Options” scroll a bit until you see “Footer Include” section. Paste your ad code there. Don’t forget to wrap the code in center tag (<center></center>).

#CGI Proxy

This is the easiest thing to do. Open up your “nph-proxy.cgi” file with notepad, I use NotePad++ btw. Look for

$table_close
</center>
</form>
EOF

Your ad code should be placed in between </form> and EOF. There is 2 instances of this codes, so you need to insert your ad code in both instances.

#Zelune

I have not once tried Zelune script just yet. But according to my friends who used this script, to place ads in proxified page, you need to look for checkbox options. Scroll a bit down past checkbox options until you see form ends tag (</form>). Place your ad code there. Make sure to put backslash () before any quotation marks (“). For an example:

<a href=”http://www.example.com” />YOUR ADS HERE</a>

should be

<a href=”http://www.example.com” />YOUR ADS HERE</a>

So, here you goes. Let’s make monies out of proxies! For the webmaster who are looking a place to promote proxies, I invite you to submit your to our proxy listing directory that can be found <a href=”http://www.xytheme.com/proxy-sites/” />HERE</a>.

Good luck!
